Important information in advance

The tower is unsuitable or only partially suitable for the following groups of visitors:

  • Wheelchair users
  • People with significant walking difficulties
  • Prams (can be left outside)
  • Baby carriers and backpack carriers (watch headroom)

Tip: The view of the tower from the outdoor grounds and from the Niersauen is a worthwhile experience without any stair climbing.

Outdoor Grounds & Walking Trails

Castle Courtyard & Outdoor Area

The outdoor grounds around the tower are largely level and easy to walk on. The castle courtyard is generally accessible for wheelchairs and prams when the ground is dry. Grassy areas can be slippery in wet weather.

Niersauen Trail (3.9 km)

The certified walking route is predominantly flat and leads through the gentle Niers meadow landscape. The surface alternates between paved paths and natural tracks. In dry conditions, it is well-passable with a wheelchair or pram; in wet weather, some sections may become soft.

Getting Here & Parking

The free car park at Burg Uda is located directly on the access road. The entrance is level; the path from the car park to the tower entrance is approximately 50–100 metres over a grass path and access road.

Designated disabled parking spaces are not marked in the car park. Anyone requiring a space as close as possible to the entrance may drive up to the access road. For arrangements, please contact the Heimatverein in advance (tel. 02158/5273).

Bus 091 (stop "Oedt Markt") is approximately 10 minutes on foot. The Niersradwanderweg cycle path passes directly by the castle.

With Children & Families

Prams

Prams can be left outside or parked in the castle courtyard. Small children from around 4 years of age can generally climb the tower independently. Younger children must be carried – please be aware of the low ceiling heights in some sections.

Child Safety

The viewing platform at the top of the tower is secured with a railing. Children should be supervised at all times on the stairs and platform. The outdoor grounds offer plenty of space to roam freely – ideal for young explorers.

Refreshments

There is no café on the grounds. However, the outdoor area is very well suited for a family picnic. Feel free to bring your own food and drinks – there is plenty of space in the open air.

Toilet Facilities

Toilet facilities are available during opening hours. Wheelchair-accessible toilets are not available. For young children, a changing mat in a rucksack is recommended.
