Nearby Attractions
Combine your castle visit with other sights in Grefrath and Oedt
St Vitus Church Oedt
The neo-Gothic parish church (built 1903) is closely linked to the history of the castle. The first written mention of "Hude" (the original name of Oedt) comes from an abbey document of 1170 – 143 years before the castle. This makes the parish the oldest documented element of Oedt's settlement history.
Niederrhein. Open-Air Museum
The Niederrheinisches Freilichtmuseum Grefrath showcases historic farmsteads, craft workshops and everyday culture of the Lower Rhine from several centuries. Just a few kilometres from Burg Uda, it is an ideal destination for a day out with the whole family.
Dückerhaus
The Dückerhaus in the centre of Oedt is one of the oldest surviving buildings in the municipality, first mentioned in documents in 1515. It stands as a quiet testament to the bourgeois building culture of the late Middle Ages alongside the grand history of the castle.
Canoeing & SUP on the Niers
From April to October, the Niers can be explored by water. Canoe and SUP tours lead through the natural Niers meadows directly past Burg Uda. Hire facilities are available from local providers in the Viersen district.
Grefrath Ice Sports Centre
The Grefrath ice sports centre is one of the largest leisure facilities in the region, with an ice rink and outdoor pool. It is just a few kilometres from Burg Uda and is a popular destination especially for families with children.
Niers Cycle Path
The Niersradwanderweg runs approximately 120 kilometres from the source of the Niers near Odenkirchen to its confluence with the Maas. It passes directly by Burg Uda and connects the castle with the entire Niers valley – ideal for day trips by bike through the Lower Rhine countryside.
